Fourteen free-range chickens live on Calvin’s Farm in Flower Mound, Texas. This is about season seven of a project that began at home in August 2020, when our first tribe of chicks kicked off education and observation — not a polished program, just kids, birds, and attention.
Nature has not always been kind. We’ve lost birds, learned hard lessons, and kept going. The flock we have now is the result of that patience.
Current flock (14):
- 2 prize white Silkies — from neighbors
- 2 grey + 2 black — Tractor Supply
- 8 Rhode Island Reds — Cackle Hatchery (Missouri), our favorite layers
Right now they are resting through the hot summer after laying hard and sweet for months. Eggs are expected again late fall 2026. See Eggs status / updates.
